How does hydrogen work
How is hydrogen different from petroleum? There are four different types of hydrogen: hydro-thermal, thermal, chemical and electrical. Hydrogen fuel cell cars use thermal hydrogen which is produced from natural gas. Electric cars use thermal hydrogen which is produced by electrolysis of water in a fuel cell. Thermal and chemical hydrogen is the best choice to fuel hydrogen cars for a number of reasons. A small amount of thermal hydrogen is the perfect substitute for any human activity where natural gas is needed, such as fueling up a natural gas vehicle or using natural gas in cooking and heating your home. There are two basic types of a chemical hydrogen. The only difference is the hydrogen you want to make: propylene or ethylene.

Is it a good idea to build new cities in USA?
Kelli Johnson San Diego Hi Dr. Monty, Here is what I think about it. In the new environment around the world I would think it would be very easy for someone to build a refinery and a fleet of trucks to serve the new cities. However, I see many difficulties. For one I can see the civil unrest that would result from the environmental problems that would be created by the refinery. From a geographic location, having a refinery in California would be optimal. Most of the heavy hydrogen is made in China or Japan. An additional difficulty is the control of the natural gas. The gas companies have rights of way and sit on top of the pipelines. Since they have the pipelines, they would be resistant to having their pipelines interrupted and stopped.
